Welcome to Secondary Phase
Our Secondary Phase is co-located on Beacon Academy site, but offers a separate unit within. We currently have 6 classrooms, an interactive sensory room, hall, and small garden. We hold our own PE lessons with our qualified PE Teacher with scheduled access to Beacon PE facilities such as Gym, Sports Hall, Astro Turf and Fitness Suite. Some of our pupils access Trampoline sessions in the Community together with a weekly Taekwondo session at a purpose built gym in Crowborough. We have weekly swimming sessions at Goldsmith's Leisure Centre, and for pupils that need Hydropool provision, this is located on site. We also have use of Beacon Canteen and adventure playground for lunch times, but again this is at a separate time to the Beacon students. We use a dedicated Food Tech room located at our 6th Form site for our Food Technology lessons. Access to College one day each week is also available to our year 10 and 11's, to take part in land studies, ceramics and cookery.
If appropriate, students can access curriculum lessons within Beacon such as Maths, Science, PE, Dance and History. Pupils are always supported by one of our TA's.
We offer a friendly, caring and supportive Secondary provision to create the best learning environment for our pupils.

The Secondary school council wrote to the GPCT asking for their own sports kit.
The GPCT kindly agreed with the sponsorship of A&W Developments.
A busy weekend in March saw a group of students, accompanied by staff, attend Brighton v Huddersfield Premier League match, with discounted tickets courtesy of Brighton & Hove Albion. The students thoroughly enjoyed the day especially as Brighton won!
Also a small group of students attended the Its a Special Knockout Competition on Sunday, this event is organised by Crowborough and District Lions Club and they finished in second place, with only 1 point separated from the winners.
All the Secondary pupils took part in a Road Safety Awareness presentation as part of Road Safety Week.
South of England Show 2016
Senior 6, with some help from S5, entered the South of England Show again this year with two categories – School Horticultural Competition and School Tiles competition. They were delighted to win second prize for their Garden, which was against tough opposition! The staff and pupils worked very hard and they had a lot of positive comments from visitors on how colourful the garden was. Well done to all involved
Dance Performance
A group of our students took part in a Beacon Dance festival for two years running, which is for Beacon A level Dance students and several Primary schools; they did exceptionally well and parents from many local schools enjoyed the experience.
Brighton Football Club Day
Some Secondary pupils enjoyed a Football experience at Brighton Football Club.
Pevensey Castle Trip
S2 class spent the day exploring the ruins at Pevensey Castle and enjoyed using the Audio Tour. We saw lots of Castle Features and enjoyed some time at Pevensey Bay looking at the Coastal Features and Coastal Defences.
Sports Relief 2016
All the pupils took part in a run or walk around the sports track to raise money for Sports Relief. Some of the pupils managed to get sponsored and we raised over £500! Dan also did an event each day including swimming, running and taking part in Taekwondo.
Dungeness Power Station visit
Senior 5 and Senior 6 classes both visited Dungeness Power Station as part of their science curriculum. They learned a lot about power and electricity during their tour of the plant.
International Horse Show
We were lucky enough to be donated tickets and a private box with lunch for the International Horse Show in Olympia from Golden Lions. Students from Primary and secondary, who had a real interest in horses and riding were selected. They had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Evolution Revolution!
Secondary had a morning workshop to explore the differences and similarities between mammals across the ages. This included looking at various fossils through a microscope where they were fascinated to find insects from millions of years ago
Badger Bush Craft Day
Phil from Badger Bushcraft spent the day with secondary and along with Sixth Form the students made willow animals. Phil demonstrated how to tie the willow with cable ties and cover with mod roc which was then painted. It was an excellent day ‘Outside the classroom’ and developed the students so that they worked as a team. They created a Badger, Owl, Fox, Robin and Deer. Well done!
These will be kept in the secondary area at Secondary.
Drusillas trip
The Golden Lion Charitable Trust organised a trip to Drusillas Animal Park in May, and some of our Secondary pupils thoroughly enjoyed their day!
Red Nose Day Fundraising
Pupils at the Secondary Phase took part in many activities including cake sale, dance routines and even a staff gunge session and raised over £160.00
World War II Bus visit
On Wednesday 10th December a double decker bus came to the Secondary phase. The Home Front Bus company provided an exciting experience to see a bombed out street inside the bus on the top deck and experience all the sounds and smells of being inside an air-raid shelter. On the bottom deck the bus was transformed into a life-like 1940s Living Room which featured a wireless and a range of original gas masks. At the back of the bus the students found a Grocery Shop and could see first hand the amount expected for Ration portions. While enjoying this experience the students moved onto making Anderson Shelters and Gas Mask boxes throughout the day.
Senior 3 & 4 Trip To Father Christmas World
The school was fortunate to have 10 tickets donated from Taylormade Dreams Charity to visit Father Christmas World in Tunbridge Wells. The students from Senior 3 and 4 went along and had an amazing experience. The venue made us feel very welcome and the pupils travelled on a train, visited the grotto, saw some very life like polar bears and even had a go at ice skating!
Secondary Trip to LEGOLAND
Some Secondary pupils thoroughly enjoyed their recent trip to LEGOLAND, which was kindly funded by Golden Lion Children’s Trust. We were very lucky with the weather as well!
Easter Egg Hunt at Bowles Outdoor Centre
Bowles Outdoor Centre asked Grove Park Secondary and 6th Form to help celebrate their 50th Anniversary. They organised an Easter Egg Hunt and sledging activities, and the pupils had a great morning and returned to school with lots of Easter Eggs!
